Morrow DNA Group 6 (NC Brothers)

This group is so-named because it started with descendants of several men thought to be brothers in 18th century North Carolina. It is probably the greatest positive success in the project, spurring research that has connected a number of lines together.

John Morrow of Mecklenburg
John is now believed to be the progenitor of most of the tested lines in this group. He was the immigrant, appearing in North Carolina before 1777. His 1795 names his wife Jennet and his sons George, Robert, John, Richard, James.

 • George "McKnight" Morrow (referred to as such, whether that was actually his middle name is a subject of debate) inherited his father's house and is found in Mecklenburg until 1820. His wife Elizabeth left a will naming their children "Mkt" and John W. and other children unnamed. Lines traced to George McKnight Morrow (~1793-~1868), Robert B. Morrow (~1803-<1888), and Hezekiah James Morrow (~1794-1840s) match closely.
 • Richard Morrow married Margaret Maxwell. As described on his profile, research into wills and naming patterns, plus DNA matches, indicates three men are his sons:

Additional Lines Other North Carolina lines from a similar period match, although less closely.

 • Robert Morrow (~1775-1841) m. Sarah Vinson, of Haywood Co, NC (about 150 miles west of Mecklenburg)
 • William Morrow (b. ~ 1789 NC) m. Rutha, in Polk County, MO by about 1845.
 • Andrew Morrow (~1810-1880+) m. Nancy Nall, from Tennessee and Kentucky respectively, married in 1861 in Edgar County, IL.

MorrowDNA - Group 6 (NC Bros) ~ {Line} Line ~ {Anc} Ancestor: {AncLink} {Addl} (info)

Parameters

 • Line = Tested or Related
 • Anc = Early or Tested
 • AncLink=for tested, earliest ancestor or most significant 'fork' in DNA; for related, most recent ancestor from tested line
 • Addl (optional) = Matches cousin (or whatever): (links)

Samples

For a tested line:

Yields:
