Facts and Events
Name Richard Morrow
Gender Male
Birth? Abt 1750
Marriage Abt 1769 North Carolina, United Statesto Margaret Maxwell (add)
Death? North Carolina or potentially Missouri

Richard was named in his father's 1795 will, and in the will of his wife's brother John in 1801.

Evidence that he is the father of John, Joseph, and James:

  • Richard, Joseph and James Morrow owned land on Newfound Creek in Buncombe County between 1802 and 1811.
  • Joseph's middle name is Maxwell.
  • Both John and James named sons Richard.
  • Margaret Maxwell had a son Benjamin Morrow who died before 1807; all three brothers named a child Benjamin.
  • Biography of James' grandson James (himself son of Richard) says that James (1782) is the son of Richard ”an Englishman, who immigrated to America in early colonial times and settled in Maryland. Some of his children subsequently moved South and located in North Carolina. In that state were born James, the grandfather, and Richard, the father of our subject.”
  • Descendants of all three men have joined the Morrow YDNA project; they match each other and 8 descendants of George McKnight Morrow 67/67 markers.
  • John, James, and Joseph are brothers, by family tradition supported by the migration pattern, and there isn't room among John (1725)'s other sons to fit men of their known age and name.
  • DNA is not consistent with family of William and David Morrow who also owned land in Buncombe County before 1810 and migrated to Missouri.
