Morrow DNA Group 7 (SC/AL Migration)

This group is small, but confirmed a suspected relationship between descendants of two men, and has also confirmed they are not related to two closely connected men. Based on additional research prompted by the project, the family structure is as follows.

James R. Morrow (1794-1835) of York Co, SC was the son of James and Tabitha (Dennis) Morrow. After his death, his widow and children mostly moved to Covington County, Alabama. An estate document naming his wife and older children (explained on his profile) confirms the York Co and AL families are the same. His children include

  • John T. Morrow (1834-1901) m. Jane [unknown] before 1860. Descendent of a son Adolphus tested DNA.
  • Louisa Morrow (1825-1900+). She was living with John and Cynthia, and her son George.
  • George W. Morrow, who lived with Louisa from 1860 to 1900, does not share YDNA with John, consistent with the theory that his mother is Louisa.
  • Thomas A. Morrow (1834-1897) m. Bethany Womble. Descendants of his son James and Allen tested DNA and match each other and Adolphus.
  • Henry Franklin Morrow, the son of Bethany conceived while Thomas was fighting in the Civil War, does not share YDNA with Thomas's other sons.

The family above also matches at 36/37 markers to Hugh Morrow (1772-1832) of Philadelphia. Hugh did not emigrate until 1801, so the relationship is likely in Ireland. A 36/37 match translates to a common ancestor between 1450 and 1900, and on average about 1750. More testing could narrow this down.
