Chap 3.
Noah married Katharine Newcomb in Lebanon. She was 18, he was 22. They were married about 27yrs when Katherine died; they had 11 children. His 2nd wife was Elizabeth Jones who he married in 1755 at Somers, CT. There is a record at Springfield, MA that shows Noah Webster intended to marry Margaret Chapin of Springfield in 1755. Whether her death or some other circumstance led to a change is unexplained in the records.
Noah and most of his children left Lebanon and moved across the county line to Mansfield in Tolland County probably about the time he remarried. There were probably 6 or 7 of the children still at home at this time. After only 7yrs he died at Mansfield at age 56 in 1762. His second wife outlived him but the date of death of either wife is not known. Land records show Noah owned land in Lebanon, Somers, & Stafford CT. His will is recorded in the Willimantic County Probate Records. Noah Webster of Mansfield CT, "being in poor health", gave to his wife Elizabeth, his 7 sons & 3 daughters and named his widow & son, Moses, as executors. It is believed that the 7th son, Noah, was by his 2nd wife.
On Feb 1, 1765 the estate was divided as follows: widow Eliz., part of house & lands; Elijah and Asahel, heirs, land in Somers; Moses, son, part of house, some land, the saw mill, part of corn mill, and part of personal property; daughter, Submit Carpenter, 2 pounds; son Daniel, 6 pounds; son, Abraham, 2 pounds; daughter Elizabeth Webster, 6 pounds of value 'in movables'; son George, 12 pounds; dau Rhoda Webster, 6 pounds; son Noah, 12 pounds; son, Moses, 'all the residue of the estate'.
