Joseph is the 12th child & 8th son of George & Sarah Webster. Born in Lebanon in 1720, he married Martha Adams in 1744 in Bolton, CT. and about 1757, he married again to Hannah in Stafford, CT. He was a shoemaker & cordwainer by trade. He moved around quite a bit as shown by the land records.
In 1743, Joseph was of Lebanon when he sold land which had belonged to his father, George. In 1753 he was of Bolton. In 1756 he sold land in Windsor where he then resided and evidently removed at once to Stafford where he was a resident in 1757 and remained until his death in 1788. In Stafford, his church relations were with the 'West Society" a church in the west portion of the town, whose records we are advised do no now(1913) exist. This has obscured much.
Joseph is buried in Tolland, CT and tomb-stone reads :"Died Feb 28 1788 in ye 66th yr of his age" (a discrepancy of one yr 9mos and 8da). The dates of the wives death are not found. The town records at Stafford Springs, CT contain a partial list of the children of Joseph by both marriages, but some of the names and dates have become illegible. There was definately a Joseph Jr. as evidenced by many land records in Stafford and by the 1790 Census.

He was there until 1788 and then not a trace of him to be found. The End. *Nathan b. Abt 1765 m. Sarah Russell. He fought in the Revolution and in 1825 made application for a pension, at that time living in Fredonia, Chautauqua, NY. He says he joined up at an early age in 1777 from Stafford, CT & was wounded in the arm, losing the use of it for the rest of his life. He was given a pension of $8 per month. There was a second marriage at some point to Elizabeth. Only known child is Elijah, birthdate unk, but he married and had sons. They are continued in Chap 12 & 28 *Samuel b. 2 Sep 1768 m. Lavina Hopkins in Sep 1790 & was a merchant. They removed to Bennington, VT & thence to Fairfax, VT where he died in 1845. He had 13 children, 9 sons: Hopkins; Hiram; Samuel; Joseph; Isaac A.; Theron; George Washington; Henry Carlton & Harrison Bemon. Resumed in Chap 12 & 28 *Isaac b. 1770 - There is evidence that son Isaac Webster may have been born of the first wife in 1755 instead of much later by the 2d wife. so his exact parentage is uncertain. He did go to Bennington, VT with Samuel & he m. Anna Robinson in 1780. He died there in 1827 age 72yrs & Anna died in 1842 age 82yr. He was also a soldier in the Revolution and in 1819 applied for a pension, age 64. The pension file is full of the details of his harrowing experiences during the war, including being taken captive by Indians, escape, privation & a serious wounding. His will mentions having several daughters, no sons. Continued in Chap 12 & 28
