WeRelate:Help review

2017 Maintenance note: This project is closed.

Please help us review the help pages! They have become a little out of date (in some cases more than a little) due to the changes we've been making to the website. There are about 50 pages needing review. If everyone takes just a few pages, it will require only a little time to review them all. Don't worry if you're not a WeRelate expert! The help pages don't have to be perfect, and you can ask questions on the talk page. Reviewing help pages is a great way to become more knowledgeable about WeRelate and help out at the same time!

Instructions

To sign up, just leave your signature by any of the pages below.

 1. Make sure that the help page instructions are still correct. The introduction of the drop-down menus 'broke' a lot of the help page instructions.
 2. Make sure that the help page instructions are understandable.
 3. In the cases where we have both a Help page and a WeRelate:About page on the same topic, please move any information worth keeping from the About page into the Help page so that we can delete the about page. (This should make maintaining the help pages easier in the future.)
 4. Add "reviewed" next your signature when you've finished reviewing the page.
 5. Please record your time on the Administrator log. WeRelate is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. We must show volunteer time to keep our tax-deductible status.

Thank-you!

Things to note

 1. In a few weeks we'll have a new Search screen that will combine search and browse functionality into the same screen. At that point the Wiki menu will go away. So when you review the help pages, please don't mention the Wiki menu. If you talk about adding pages, tell people to use the Add menu instead. If you talk about searching pages, tell people to use the Search menu. And if you talk about browsing pages, tell people to select "Browse Pages" in the "My Relate" menu.
 2. To create a link to a Special page where the link has a ? in it, as in [[Special:AddPage?namespace=108]], putting the link inside double brackets as I just did doesn't work. Instead, you need to put the entire URL inside single brackets, as in [http://werelate.org/wiki/Special:AddPage?namespace=108 Add Person]. This results in Add Person. To get rid of the little "off-site arrow" that appears after the link, you can surround the link with a span, as in [http://werelate.org/wiki/Special:AddPage?namespace=108 Add Person], which results in Add Person.
