Mary Gobby was born in 1853 at Toddington in Bedfordshire, daughter of a straw plaiter named Mary Ann Gobby, formerly Buckingham, and her husband Joseph Gobby, an agricultural labourer.

Mary appears in both the 1861 and 1871 censuses living with her parents and siblings at Parsonage End in Toddington. She was described as a scholar in 1861 and a straw plaiter in 1871.

Mary has yet to be researched after the 1871 census.
