Aged 18, she married an agricultural labourer named Joseph Gobby, who was 22. Between 1840 and 1863 the couple had thirteen children, although four of those died young - indeed, they had three sons named Joseph and two daughters named Emma.

Mary Ann appears in each census between 1841 and 1871 with her husband and various children, living mostly at Parsons End or Parsonage End in Toddington. She worked as a straw plaiter.

Mary Ann died aged 58 in 1880. Joseph outlived her by about nine years.
