Emma Gobby was born in 1863 at Toddington in Bedfordshire, daughter of a straw plaiter named Mary Ann Gobby, formerly Buckingham, and her husband Joseph Gobby, an agricultural labourer.
Emma appears in the 1871 census living with her parents and siblings at Parsonage End in Toddington, described as a scholar. The 1881 census finds her living with her recently widowed father at Tanners End in Toddington and working as a straw hat sewer.
Emma has yet to be researched after the 1881 census.
