Joseph Gobby was baptised on 18th March 1844 at Toddington in Bedfordshire, son of a straw plaiter named Mary Ann Gobby, formerly Buckingham, and her husband Joseph Gobby, and agricultural labourer.

Joseph died as a very young baby, being buried just five days after his baptism.
