John McCarthy

Services will be Monday for John J. McCarthy, 61, 223 1/2 20th St., Rock Island, who died in his home Friday night.

The body was taken from Wheelan Funeral Home to Kempter and Gallagher Funeral Home, Bellevue, Iowa. Services will be in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, LaMotte, Iowa. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.

He was born in Otter Creek, Iowa, April 16, 1900, to John and Margaret McCarthy. He came to Rock Island from Bellevue in 1940. He married Mercedes Pitts in LaMotte Nov. 28, 1923. He was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal 23 years, retiring in 1957 because of ill health.

Surviving are sons, John, Dubuque, Robert, Boston, Mass., Allen and Myrlin, both of Rock Island, and David, with the Army in Germany; daughters, Mrs. Richard Kueter, Bellevue, Mrs. Robert Powers and Mrs. JoAnn Krull, both of Rock Island, Mrs. Ralph Dodson, Pacoima, Calif., Miss Donna McCarthy, Rock Island, and Miss Mary McCarthy, Pacoima; 13 grandchildren; brothers, James and Leo, Dubuque, and Gerald, Maquoketa; sisters, Mrs. Katherine Regan, Dubuque, Mrs. Dolly Hingtgen, Zwingle, Mrs. Celestine Buffman, Dubuque; and Mrs. Isadore Picray, Bettendorf.
