On the 1850 census, age 12, with parents, Marion Twp., Hocking Co., Oh. [p 855 fam #213/219] On the 1856 Iowa State Census, we see Perry age 16 with his father in Polk Co., Ia. [p. 274, fam #26] Family record contained the following: "obtained at the Hutchinson, Ks., Library, printed in "The Tree Climber," a local genealogical publication, he is on the voter's registration for 1863, age 25, a miller living at 112 Front St., Salina, Saline Co., Ks." Myra is the daughter of Rev. A.A. and Nancy C. (Beaty) Morrison. From her Obituary, dated 2 Dec 1931 (no paper given), we find that she was born in Ohio, and came to Kansas as a small child. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and lived at 110 South Ohio St., Salina, Ks. On the census she declares her father is from North Carolina and her mother born in Indiana. In son William's (#129.B) obituary, A.A. Morrison is called "first Presbyterian minister in Salina." The 1870 census shows us Perry, age 32, a farmer in Walnut Grove, Salina post office, Saline Co., Ks. He has with him wife "Meysa" (Myra, poor writing) age 15, b. Ohio. Also brother Peter Rittgers (#12.B ), age 26; Melissa Merlmes (sp. ?), domestic servant, and Gulleib Botz, age 15. (This is the Guttip Bates, age 5, on the 1860 census with father Jacob in Polk Co., Ia. I suspect it may be child of Catherine, Perry's step-mother.) [p 50 fam #144/141] In 1880, Perry, 42, and Myra, 25, are in Liberty Twp., Saline Co., Ks. They have five children with them. On the census she declares her father is from North Carolina and her mother born in Indiana. [ED 299, p. 24, fam #93/99 ] In his father's estate, 1880, he is "of Silada, Ks." On the 1900 census he is in Liberty Twp., Saline Co., Ks., age 62 with wife "Mira", age 45, b. Sept 1854. They have been married 29 years and Myra has born 13 children, 12 still alive. Perry is a farmer, with two sons and his son-in-law, Archie Koplin, working for him. It appears that Archie and wife Daisy , with their children, are also living in the household. [ED 118, p 195B, fam #32/32] A copy of an old photo, showing Perry and the next three brothers, has been shared with us. Perry has a full white beard and quite a receded hairline. Perry died 30 Jun 1903 in Assaria, Saline Co., Ks. Typical of the older obituaries, his is a treasure of information. "Perry Ritger who lives three miles from Assaria died at his home at 8 o'clock this morning of paralysis . He had been sick for a couple of weeks but was thought to have passed the crisis of the disease until yesterday, when he was taken much worse and continued declining until death came this morning. The deceased was an old settler and was well known in the city and county."[date and paper not supplied with the photocopy of the obituary] The 1910 census shows Myra, 55 , as head of household. Listed with her in Ward 3, Salina, Saline Co., Ks., are sons Hugh G. , 25, Arthur, 16, and William, age 12; sister Mary E. Morrison, 61; and grand-daughter LaVera A. Whelchel. Myra tells us she bore 13 children and 11 are alive - she has lost another child [LaVera's mother Etta (#129.5)] since the last census.[ED 135, p 304 fam #47/47] Myra died 2 Dec 1931 in Colorado Springs, Colo., and was buried in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina, Ks. [Funeral Card] From her obituary, 2 Dec 1931[newspaper not cited,] she died of "heart disease" while visiting daughter Bertha Guy. Her sister, Mary Etta Morrison is the only surviving sibling, and she is in Goldendale, Wash. From Obituary, we find that she was born in Ohio, and came to Kansas as a small child. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and lived at 110 South Ohio St., Salina, Ks.
