She is on the 1800 census, age 2, with parents in Liberty Twp., Saline Co., Ks.[ED 299, p 24 , fam #93/99] On the 1900 census with Uncle, Eli Rittgers, apparently taking care of Eli's 8 year old daughter, Edith. Eli is 63 and a widower in Smokey Hill Twp., Saline Co., Ks. Etta married Cyrus Clinton WHELCHEL about 1901. He was the son of Robert Patterson and Laura (Sears) Whelchel. Etta died 6 Dec 1903, and was buried in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina, Ks. After Etta died, daughter LaVera lived with grandmother, Myra Rittgers in Salina, Ks. On 1920 census, Saline, Salina Co., Ks., Cy, 55, has remarried and has a son Clinton by wife Edna D. (__) Miller. Clinton is NOT a Rittgers Descendant. In the home also is one Harry Miller, 16. Cy is an "engineer - tractor".[ED 148, p 6B, fam #138/166] They live next door to Etta's sister Sarah (Rittgers) Bolton.
