On the 1850 census, age 17, with parents, Marion Twp., Hocking Co., Oh.[p 855 fam #213/219] They came to Iowa in 1853, probably with the family. On 5 Apr 1855, Jacob sold to Joseph H. Hamilton 40 acres of land. [Book H. of Deeds, p. 493, abst. #76811] On the 1856 Iowa State Census, Polk Co., Ia., that J.H. Hamilton, 26, carpenter, born Ohio, lived 3 years in Iowa. Wife Margaret and 3 children listed with him. [p. 274, fam #26] We find Paul C. Mantz on the 1860 census in Alton, Union Twp., Boone Co. Co., Ia. He is 28, a farmer with $800 in real estate and $350 in personal estate. With him is Margaret, age 28, and four children, three of them surnamed Hamilton.[p 322 fam #723/569] She sold the Polk Co. property on 4 Feb 1861 to Charles Snodgrass. He later sold it to Moses Lawson who married Christina (Smith) Rittgers, widow of Daniel (#1.6)[Family record] By 1870, we find this family in Dallas Twp., Dallas Co., Ia. Paul and Margaret are now both 38. Paul is a farmer with $1400 in real estate and $837 in personal property. There are three children with them, only one, Catherine, surnamed Hamilton. [p 548 fam #25/25] On father's estate papers, 1880, Margaret is listed as being in "Perry, Dallas Co., Ia." They lived the later part of their life on a small farm near Rippey, Greene Co., Ia. We see she and Paul on the 1900 census alone on their farm in Rippey. It states that they were both born Feb 1833 and are now 67 years old. They have been married 43 years (thus married in 1857). She reports she has born seven children, four are alive in 1900. [ED 97, p 11A, fam #221/221] We are told that Margaret died on that farm about 1916.[PCC, Extracted from DAR records, 1933, no page no.]
