Often called "Jake" in family records. We find him on the 1850 census, age 15, b. Oh., with parents in Marion Twp, Hocking Co., Oh. [p 855 fam #213/219] On the 1856 Iowa State Census, he is age 20, in his father's home in Polk Co., Ia. [p. 274, fam #26] In 1860 he is age 24, single, farm laborer on census with family of J. D. Snyder., Jefferson Twp, Polk Co, Ia.[p 92, fam #676] On the 1870 census, he is age 34, with wife Mary, 23, and 2 month old child, Martin L ., in Valley., Post Office-Des Moines, Polk Co., Ia. No profession listed. (assume he farming )[p 406 fam #100/110] In 1880 at age 44, he is farming in Jefferson, Polk Co., Ia. Wife Mary F., 33, and son, Martin L., 10, are with him, as is a servant, John Hammond, age 15, b. in Ia.[p 592, fam #12/12] Mary died 8 Mar 1890 in Polk Co., Ia., and was buried in Rittgers Cemetery, Johnston, Ia.[RitCem] In 1910, Grimes, Jefferson Twp., Polk Co., Ia., Jake, 76, a retired farmer, is a widower with son "Leaut", and his wife Mattie.[ED 176, p 1A, fam #7/7] The 1920 census , taken Jan, 1920, shows Martin L., 49, as head of household with his father, Jacob R., age 85. Martin states he is divorced and Jacob is a widower. They are renting on Pleasant St., in Des Moines, Ia. Neither one is working.[ED 113, p. 9A, fam. #158/269] Jacob died 11 Sep 1920 in Des Moines, Polk Co., Ia, and was buried in Rittgers Cemetery, Johnston, Polk Co., Ia[RitCem]
