John Clark was one of the Early Settlers of Augusta County, Virginia

Disambiguation
Not to be confused with John Clark who died in Greensville County, Virginia in 1811. Some researchers, including a Find-A-Grave memorial claim that this John Clark is the same person, but the will of John Clark from Greensville County, Virginia clearly shows this is NOT the same person.
About John Clark
John Clark, [some have called him "John Gridley Clark"] had to have been born by abt. 1740, as he would have reached adulthood [age 21] when he received land in Beverley Manor from his father, James Clark in 1761.
Records support this John Clark marrying Frances McClintick/McClintock prior to 1770, and their children are proven and are listed in the will of John's wife Frances [d. 1822 in Bath Co., KY] and their son James Clark [d. 1805 in Montgomery Co, KY]. It appears that they lived in that part of Montgomery County, Kentucky that became Bath County in 1811. It is likely that they migrated around the same time as John Clark's brother-in-law, William McClintic, who is listed in Augusta County, VA records as migrating to Kentucky in 1792, and is listed in the 1800 Montgomery County, KY Tax List.
This John Clark appears to have died prior to 1805, as his son James named his mother Frances in his will and referred to land which was likely left to him by his father when he died. Also, Frances Clark purchased land in Montgomery County, Kentucky in 1807, also indicating that her husband John Clark had died prior to that transaction. Additional research is needed to determine the exact year and place of this John Clark's death.

John Gridley Clark Birth 1741 Augusta Springs, Augusta County, Virginia, USA Death unknown
Note: this is NOT the John Clark that died 1811 in Greensville Co. VA. That other John Clark gave his entire estate to his mother Elizabeth Clark, named his brother George Clark as his Executor and his will was witnessed by Samuel Clark, and security was provided by Edwin Clark among others. These persons are clearly of a different John Clark.
