Introduction

The New River originates in northeastern North Carolina, flows north into Virginia, crosses the Appalachian Mountains, continues northwestward into West Virginia, and finally discharges into the Ohio River. The portion of its watershed that lies within Virginia (light green) comprises the New River Settlement Tapestry.
