Services Held For Mrs. Wm. Gentz

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 5 at 10:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana, for Mrs. William Gentz, who died at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point December 2. The Rev. Emil Reinking officiated. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Anna Louise Christine was the daughter of Frederick and Minnie Baltz. She was born January 1, 1883, in rural Postville. She was baptized in infancy in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, and attended the rural schools in the Luana community. She went to work in Peoria, Illinois, where she met her future husband. They were married June 7, 1911, in Peoria and shortly after their marriage came to this community living between Postville and Castalia later moving to the Luana community.

They became the parents of eight children. Three children and her husband preceded her in death. Louis died in infancy; her husband in May 1937; Mrs. Lester (Agnes) Schulte in December 1939; and Mrs. Gene (Rita) Doerring in August 1969.

In 1941 Mrs. Gentz moved into Luana to make her home and lived there until 1968 when she moved into the Lutheran Home at Strawberry Point.

Survivors include a son, William of Dubuque; four daughters, Mrs. Harley (Mary) Radloff, Luana, Mrs. Ivan (Hester) McGuire of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Albert (Lou Ann) George of Sommerville, Massachusetts, and Mrs. James (Marjorie) Leach of Hiawatha. Also, two sister, Mrs. Bertha Buhlman and Mrs. Louise Klaus, both of Waterloo; 25 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
