Mary Ann Cook was born in 1858 at Aspley Guise in Bedfordshire, England. She was the daughter of a lace maker called Mary Ann Cook, formerly Lichfield, and her husband John Cook, an agricultural labourer. Sadly, young Mary died when she was about eighteen months old in 1859.
