Elizabeth Cook was born in 1846 at Aspley Guise in Bedfordshire, England. She was the daughter of a lace maker named Mary Ann Cook, formerly Lichfield, and her husband John Cook, an agricultural labourer. Elizabeth was baptised in the neighbouring parish of Husborne Crawley, where her parents had recently lived. She appears in the 1851 census living with her parents and siblings at New Town in Aspley Guise.

Sadly Elizabeth died in 1854 when she was only eight years old. Later that year her parents had another daughter, whom they also named Elizabeth.
