When she was in her late 80's and early 90's, she wrote her life story, which is very very interesting, humorous and accurate. She describes the train trip when her mother, an aunt, and children moved to Michigan from Ohio. She also describes the covered wagon move from Eastern Michigan to Western Michigan. On March 20, 1891, at age 10, she went to Ohio to live with, and care for, her Grandma Corll until her grandma died in 1895. When she was at the train station to leave Ohio her grandfather gave her a pocket watch. Her family was very poor. She wanted to be a nurse and someone offered to pay for her schooling, but it wasn't allowed because she would have to care for men. After her marriage, she worked with her husband establishing a small store in Coopersville. She raised five children. In 1930, she her husband and daughter sailed to Europe, due to the generosity of Ruth. During the depression, in 1934, she and her husband moved to Madoc, Ontario, Canada. They moved from Canada to Grand Rapids Michigan and then retired to St. Petersburg Florida. After her husband died, she lived with her daughter, Ruth, in Warrensburg, Missouri. Throughout her life, she made beautiful drawn work and crochet laces. Many family members have some of these pieces. In November 1968 The American Rose Society approved the name of a rose for her, the 'Carrie Corll' Rose.
