Obituary

HOSLER--Geneva Hosler, age 97, of Caledonia, went to be with her Lord Thursday, January 5, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore; brothers, Forrest and Gerald Laug; sister, Ruth TerKeurst and great granddaughter, Broolynn Johnson. She is survived by her two daughters, Diane Hosler of Grand Rapids, Carol (Mike) Giblin of Spring Lake; son, Alan (Mary) Hosler of Richland WA; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; step-son Tedd Hosler of Perth Road, Ont; and brother, Louis (Delores) Laug of Naples FL. Geneva worked for over 50 years in the Grand Rapids Public School system as school secretary at Fountain School, Henry School, Riverside Jr. High, and during retirement at Grand Rapids Community College. She and her husband built their Caledonia home with the help of friends and family. She enjoyed the out-of-doors, traveling, reading, music, jigsaw puzzles, gardening, feeding birds, caring for her pet cats, and knitting. During WWII she knit a sweater a week for the Red Cross for the soldiers, and held knitting classes in her home so that others could also knit for the cause. She has also knit 100 pair of mittens a year for the Santa Claus girls. Since a young girl she loved babies. As a young mother she established a nursery in her home to care for thee newborns at a time waiting for adoption. Later, she cared for the children of young couples in the Grand Rapids area. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to the staff of Railside Assisted Living Center for their loving care of Geneva, to Spectrum Hospice and to Alaska Baptist Church for their devotion to her. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brian Harrison officiating. The family will be at the funeral chapel to greet friends and relatives one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Santa Claus Girls or to Alaska Baptist Church Youth Ministries.

Missing from the obituary is her long devotion to the Detroit Tigers, listening daily on the radio, then on Television, and attending a game when she was about 94 years old.
