Ann Newborn was baptised on 8th February 1778 at Barnack in Northamptonshire, daughter of Mary Newborn, formerly Lambert, and her husband Edward Newborn.

Ann was married on 8th November 1797, aged 19, to a cordwainer called John Brumhead. They married at Ufford, just east of Barnack, although their banns were also read in the nearby town of Stamford, which is where John was said to be living at the time.

Ann and John settled in Stamford after their marriage, living in the part of the town known as Stamford Baron, being the part of the town south of the River Welland, which at that time was in Northamptonshire, unlike the rest of the town which was in Lincolnshire. Ann and John went on to have seven children baptised at St Martin's in Stamford Baron between 1798 and 1811, although three of their children died young. The children's baptisms describe John as a cordwainer and shoemaker.

Back in Barnack, Ann's father died in 1822 and her mother died in 1832.

John died in 1834, when he was said to be 57 years old. He was buried at St Martin's in Stamford Baron on 6th June 1834.

Ann appears in the 1841 census living on High Street St Martin's in Stamford Baron with her son William. Ann was working as a cow keeper at this time.

Ann died on 31st October 1846 at Stamford Baron, aged of 68, being buried at St Martin's in Stamford Baron on 3rd November 1846.

    Baptisms 1777 / Anne Daughter of Edward & Mary Newbourn - Feb[ruar]y 8

Although this baptism appears under the heading 1777, it is clear that whoever wrote these entries was still following the old custom of changing the year on 25th March rather than 1st January. This entry is one of several dated January, February and March which appear after those for December 1777 but before the heading for 1778. It is therefore presumed that the actual date of baptism was 8th February 1778.
