Facts and Events
John Brumhead's origins have yet to be established. If the age quoted when he died was correct, then he was born around 1776. John's first confirmed sighting is on 8th November 1797, when he was married at Ufford in Northamptonshire to Ann Newborn, who was 19 and from the nearby village of Barnack. Although their marriage record describes them as both living in the parish of Ufford at the time of their marriage, it is worth noting that they also had banns read in the nearby town of Stamford, in which John was described as living in the parish of Stamford St John. John and Ann settled in Stamford after their marriage, living in the part of the town known as Stamford Baron, being the part of the town south of the River Welland, which at that time was in Northamptonshire, unlike the rest of the town which was in Lincolnshire. John and Ann went on to have seven children baptised at St Martin's in Stamford Baron between 1798 and 1811, although three of their children died young. The children's baptisms describe John as a cordwainer and shoemaker. John died at Stamford Baron on 5th June 1834, when he was said to be 57 years old. He was buried at St Martin's in Stamford Baron the next day. Ann survived him by twelve years. References
