Charles Newborn was baptised on 24th March 1793 at Barnack in Northamptonshire, the youngest of twelve children of Mary Newborn, formerly Lambert, and her husband Edward Newborn.

When Charles was 24 he was married in the neighbouring town of Stamford to a Mary Slater. After their marriage, they returned to Barnack, where Charles worked as a gardener and labourer. Charles and Mary had nine children baptised at Barnack between 1818 and 1828, although one of their daughters died as a baby.

Charles's father died in 1822.

In 1823 Charles was in trouble with the authorities, being sent to jail in Peterborough accused of stealing geese at night from a Mr Burbidge and Mr Mean in Ufford, just east of Barnack. Charles's nephew, Newborn Pask (his sister Sarah's son) was committed to jail for the same offence.

In 1832, Charles's mother died. After her death Charles secured a grant of administration to allow him to administer her estate.

Each census from 1841 to 1861 finds Charles and Mary living in Barnack, with Charles working as a gardener.

Charles died at Barnack on 23rd August 1866, aged 73. Mary outlived him by over twelve years.
