Rose Newborn was baptised on 11th February 1785 at Barnack in Northamptonshire, daughter of Edward Newborn and Mary Lambert. She was baptised the same day as her sister Mary, who was probably her twin. Mary died later that month.

On 12th April 1810, aged 25, Rose married a shepherd named Thomas Downes at Barnack. They went on to have five children baptised at Barnack between 1810 and 1823, including twins called Mary and Rose in 1819. Rose's father died in 1822.

Thomas died in 1828, aged 40, leaving Rose with children who would have been between five and eighteen years old to look after. Rose's mother died in 1832.

In 1835, seven years after Thomas's death, Rose remarried. Her second husband was a cottager and agricultural labourer named James Burrows, whose first wife, Elizabeth Allen, had died the previous year. The 1841 census finds Rose and James living in Barnack with one of James's children from his first marriage and his first wife's father, William Allen.

On census night in 1851, Rose was not at home in Barnack with James, but at the nearby village of Collyweston with her son Charles Downes and his wife and children, including a one month old baby. Presumably Rose was helping out with her new granddaughter.

The 1861 census finds Rose back in Barnack with James.

Rose died on 17th January 1862, aged about 77. James outlived her by eighteen years.
