Whoever wrote these records was clearly still following the old convention of changing the year on 25 March rather than 1 January - this entry follows those for December 1777. The Bishop's Transcript records this burial in a return for the period "from Easter 1777 to Easter 1778". It is therefore clear that the date of burial was actually 1 Jan 1778.
