This is my bio for our class reunion in 2007I am Garry V. Mussmann, a graduate from Madelia High School in 1957. My mother was all-Irish and my father was all-German, making me a half-and-half. I have a half-sister, who was 12-years older than me and has passed away. In growing up, I attended several schools before coming to Madelia to graduate. After graduating, I attended St. Olaf College in Northfield with a lot of my high school classmates. I did not have the means to keep attending St. Olaf, so transferred to Mankato State to complete my degree. In doing so, I had a major in Biology and minors in Chemistry and Business Administration. Immediately after my college graduation, I was employed at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN as a lab technician. In accepting this job, my family moved with me, where my four children (Denise, Danette, Ron and Mark) grew up and graduated from the Rochester High Schools. As a lab tech, I was involved with the development of an analytical laboratory, which tested trace elements in patients for the Doctor’s diagnosis and treatment. I then became Supervisor of the lab, of which I was also Manager. During this time, after our own episodes of life, Marcia and I met and got married. She also had four children (Scott, Eric, Shawn and Chad), who were each six years younger than mine. We have raised our eight children together, and we’re proud of all of them and their accomplishments. All together, we have 15 grandchildren and 1 Great-grandchild, so far. Now during retirement, Marcia and I are traveling to all of our kids, who are scattered thru Oregon. When we’re not traveling, I spend a lot of time on the golf course. I’m making up for all the time I had to spend “on-call” at work. Marcia goes back to Mayo as a helper during vacation time for extra money, but really to keep up on “gossip.” With all of this, Marcia and I are fully enjoying retirement.
