Facts and Events
Thomas Dean was born on 10th June 1804 and baptised the following month at Great Gaddesden in Hertfordshire, son of a straw plaiter called Elizabeth Dean, formerly Hobbs, and her husband James Dean, a labourer. Thomas was the eldest of their eleven children. On 20th December 1829, aged 25, Thomas married Mary Davis at Great Gaddesden. They went on to have three children at Great Gaddesden between 1830 and 1835. Each of the children's baptisms record that Thomas was a labourer and the family lived at Gaddesden Row. Thomas died when he was only 33 years old, being buried at Great Gaddesden on 3rd September 1837. Both his parents outlived him. The 1841 census finds two of his children being looked after by Mary's relatives, whilst Mary herself appears to have been working as a servant at a nearby farm. However, she died later in 1841 when she was only 31 years old, having only survived Thomas by four years. References
