Facts and Events
Henry Lewis was baptised on 20th April 1834 at Husborne Crawley in Bedfordshire, son of Sarah (or Sally) Lewis, formerly Cook, and her husband Thomas Lewis, a pig dealer. Henry was the couple's eldest child; they had married just over six months before his baptism. They went on to have a total of fifteen children, although four died young.
Henry seems to have been recorded twice in the 1841 census. He is listed at Aspley Guise with his parents and siblings, but he also appears at Church End in Husborne Crawley with his paternal grandparents, George and Mary Lewis. Perhaps he was staying with his grandparents that night but his parents still listed him on their census return.
The 1851 census finds Henry with his grandparents at Husborne Crawley again. By this time he was working as a tailor. Later that year Henry was accused of stealing a flower pot containing an 'ice plant', but he was acquitted on 15th October 1851.
Henry has yet to be traced after his acquittal.
