Samuel Franklin Conkling, son of Isaac and Rebecca (Marsh) Conkling was born on 9 or 11 April 1826 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Farmer's College in Cincinnati, Ohio and was a pioneer physician of Delphos, Ohio. The city of Delphos is located in Van Wert and Allen counties of Ohio. He married Margaret King in 1851 in Butler County, Ohio. Margaret died in 1867. Samuel then married Ann (Anna) Feeley Cowan, daughter of J. S. Feeley, on 27 August 1868, in Delphos (Van Wert County), Ohio. Samuel was a member of the first Board of Education of Delphos Union School District and in 1866 served as commissioner of Van Wert County. Samuel died of heart disease on 24 July 1887 in Delphos and is buried in section 4, row 8 of the Westside Cemetery in Delphos. He is buried with both wives and some of his children in the Conklin family plot After Samuel died, his wife, Ann and daughters Mollie and Minnie operated a boarding house in their home. Ann was born in Virginia in June, 1832 and died in Delphos in 1920. The descendants of Samuel has consistently continued to spell their name as Conkling.
