Pierson Cory Conkling, son of Isaac and Rebecca (Marsh) Conkling was born on 14 October 1821 in Cincinnati, Ohio and died 18 April 1907 in Kentland (Newton County), Indiana. He lists his occupation variously as farmer and storekeeper. The 1900 census shows Pierson and his wife living in North Vernon (Jennings County), Indiana. Pierson married three times. He was first married on 29 January 1846, in Butler County, Ohio to Abigail Courey (sometimes spelled Conry), daughter of James D. and Anna L. Conry. Abigail was born on 24 January 1829 in Butler County, Ohio and died on 22 August 1850 at Cincinnati, Ohio She was buried at a cemetery in Reading, Ohio and was reinterred at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. Pierson's second wife's name was Sarah Jane Travis. She was born around 1833 in Ohio. Pierson's third wife, Martha, was born in November, 1831 and died on 18 April 1906 in North Vernon, Indiana. Pierson died on 18 April 1907, in Kentland, Indiana. Both Pierson and Martha are buried at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. Pierson Conkling came to Jennings Co., Indiana in 1868 and engaged in the general merchandising business at Nebraska, Indiana, and later, in 1874, located in North Vernon, Indiana. |
