To all to whom these presents shall come Greeting, Know Ye, that in conformity to an inclusive survey bearing date the eight day of june eighteen hundred and two made pursuant to an order of the Worshippful Court of Botetourt County there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto Patrick Lockhart a certain tract or parcel of land containing one thousand acres, one hundred and fifty five a part thereof is part of a tract of one hundred ad seventy acres formerly granted to John Withers by patent bearing date the thirteenth of July seventeen hundred and eighty seven which was conveyed to said Lockhart by deed dated the twelfth of August seventeen hundred and eighty seven and eighty nine, by John Hawkins attorney in fact for John Withers~ three hundred and twenty acres an other part thereof was formerly granted to said Lockhart by patent dated fourth of August seventeen hundred and eighty seven, also fifty acres another part is part of a tract of two hundred and twelve acres granted to Patrick Lockhart...[remainder on following page]

  • April 1778 - At a meeting of the Justices of Botetourt County the 14th day of April, 1778, a Commission of the Peace and a dedimus directed to William Fleming, Geo. Skillern, Benjamin Estill, Philip Love, Andrew Woods, William Madison, Wm. McClanachan, Adam Smyth, Wm. Christian, Patrick Lockhart, Thomas Lewis, George Rutledge, Jonathan Taylor, Wm. Hamleton, Thomas Rowland, John Armstrong, Robert Poage & James Barnett, Gentlemen, were presented (word omitted) Court. Whereupon George Skillern and William Madison administered the oath of Justice to William Fleming, who administered the same to the other Justices. They then proceeded to the choise of a Clerk, when Laird May was unanimously chosen, who took the oath according to law.
  • April 1778 - At a court held for Botetourt County the aforesaid day. Present: William Fleming, Win. Madison, Wm. McClenahan, Adam Smyth, Patrick Lockhart, Thomas Rowland, John Armstrong & James Barnett, Gent. Justices.

  • 15 April 1778 - Ord. that the sum of ten pounds eleven shillings and six pence be repaid to Patrick Lockhart which he hath advanced in behalf of the publick for the support of Mary Smith and her three children, whose husband James Smith is a soldier in the Continental service, also the further sum of nine pounds ten shillings which he hath advanced for the support of Margaret Laird and her children whose husband David Laid is a soldier in the said service, and the farther sum of fifteen pounds for Mary Smith & five pounds for Mrs. Laird, to be received & applyed by him in tho purchase of a cow, & such other necessaries that they may stand in need of.

  • August 8, 1786. - The Militia Officers' Commissions in this County bear dates as follows: Pat Lockhart (date not given)
  • Aug. 12, 1786. - Ordered that the Sheriff advertise the letting of the building of a prison to the lowest bidder at the September Court, agreeable to plan of Pat Lockhart, Thomas Rowland and Geo. Hancock.
  • From the Will of James Trenor of Botetourt County, Virginia:
Item 2nd. I give and bequeath to my grandson, Garwood Goggin Trenor the plantation, where he and his father George H. Trenor, now lives on the waters of Sinking Creek, a branch of New River in the county of Botetourt, containing 220 acres, be the same more or less surveyed by Robert Anderson, Deputy under Col. William Anderson, Principal Surveyor of Botetourt, on the 18th of June 1832, and recorded in his office in Book No. 5, and page 222, formerly known by the name of William Thompson's place, being part of the 400 acres purchased of Gen. James Breckenridge and Patrick Lockhart, and part of 100 acres purchased from Robert Anderson, and part of 420 acres purchased from James and Mary Lockhart, heirs of Patrick Lockhart, and also two negro slaves to wit: Charles and Milly and her future increase to his heirs so long as slavery is tolerated in this state provided, however, that his father, George H. Trenor is to have the use and occupation of the land and slaves during his natural life, provided, also, that if the mother of the said Garwood G. Trenor, shall have more children by the said George H. Trenor, then and in that case, I give and bequeath the said land to be equally divided between Garwood and his brother or brothers, if any should be, and one third of the slaves and to the female or females, if any should be, the other two-thirds of the said slaves, still reserving an interest in and to said land and slaves to the said George H. Trenor's wife Sarah, if she outlives him, during her widowhood and no longer. Also, I give and bequeath to the said Garwood G. Trenor, one plain bed and furniture.
