- Page 262 - - (date unreadable). John Lewis' will - - To wife, Margaret, Warm Spring tract, and after her death to son Thomas. Executrix, wife. Teste: Margaret McFarlane, Agatha Frogg, Wm. Long. Proved, 21st September, 1790, by Agatha Stuart. (late Agatha Frogg) and Wm. Long. Margaret qualifies.

- Page 432.--26th February, 1787. John Lewis, of Warm Springs, to White, Kirk & Co., merchants at said Springs, mortgage of chattels, Ł38. Teste: Wm. Bell, Wm. Garrard, John Cowardine.
- Vol. 2 - Anthony Mustoe vs. Thomas Lynn Lewis, Elizabeth Strother Lewis, Charles Augustus Lewis, John Banks Lewis. Writ of right, 26th June, 1793. Bath, 400 acres in Bath on Thompson's Mill Run, a branch of Cowpasture, surveyed for defendants, 29th September, 1792, by virtue of a location made 3d February, 1787, in name of John Lewis, for 400 acres. Plaintiff claims, by a survey of 1,000 acres, made January 10, 1793, by virtue of three locations, &c., viz: (1) 397-1/2 acres, by warrant, for 1,000 acres, No. 12,433 assignee of Charles Copeland; (2) 202-1/2 acres, by warrant, for 4,000 acres, No. 489, assignee John Oliver, assignee Zachariah Clarke; (3) 400 acres, by virtue two warrants (a) 140 acres, by warrant, for 500 acres, No. 12,600, assignee of George Clendennin, (b) 260 acres, by warrant, for 1,687-1/2, No. 12,095, assignee William Poage, assignee James Rucker, assignee Augustine Rucker. Locations for Mustoe at Warm Springs. Three cases.
Information on John Lewis
From "Lord Dunmore's Little War of 1774", by Warren Skidmore, Donna Kaminsky, pg. 114:
- Captain John Lewis was from Warm Springs in Bath (then Augusta) County, and must be distinguished from his cousin of the same name and rank from Salem in Roanoke (then Botetourt) County. The Bath County man (John Lewis) was born on 1 November 1749, the eldest son of Thomas and Jane (Strother) Lewis, and a nephew of Col. Andrew Lewis. He was seriously wounded at Point Pleasant, but recovered and served under Washington at Valley Forge, in the Jerseys, and was present at the surrender of Cornwallis. He died untimely in 1788, leaving four children. His undated will was proven on 21 September 1790 in Augusta County by his sister Agatha Stewart, late Agatha Frogg, noticed in Appendix five, but he is said to have died in Knox County, Tennessee. His wife Margaret, a daughter of Colonel John and Elizabeth (Strother) Froggm was to have his Warm Spring plantation, and was still living there (still his widow) in 1806.
- The first court in Bath County convened on May 10, 1791 at the home of Margaret Lewis, widow of Captain John Lewis, at Warm Springs. The justices present on the opening day were the following: John Bollar, .I. Dean, J. Poage. William Poage, Samuel Vance and John Wilson. 11. Capt. John5 Lewis (Thomas4, John3, Andrew2, William1) was born November 1, 1749. Capt. died 1790 at 40 years of age.
He married Margaret Banks?.
Capt. John Lewis and Margaret Banks? had the following children:
- 47 i. Thomas Lynn6 Lewis. He married Elizabeth Bollar May, 1802.
- 48 ii. Elizabeth Strother Lewis. She married Col. John Francisco 1798.
- 49 iii. John Banks Lewis. He married Jane Monroe November, 1802.
- + 50 iv. Charles Augustus Lewis was born 1785.
