Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

  • Page 220 - November 21, 1745 - John Gilmore bought 500 acres on the north fork of Tees Creek -- (later known as Kerr's Creek)-- from Benjamin Borden, Sr. [Augusta County Deed Book 1, pg 220, (Note: this page is not contained in Chalkley's transcripts)]
  • Page 222.--22d November, 1746. Samuel Norwood to John Gilmer, yeoman, £130; 500 acres, part of a large tract formerly Francis McCown's land and sold to Samuel by Francis. 9th April, 1746, recorded in Augusta on Tees Creek (later called Kerr's Creek). Witnesses, Robt. Erwin, John Carr, Hugh Martin. Acknowledged, 21st May. 1747.
