- Vol. 1 - 15 Oct 1765. John Eakin and 522 acres added to tithables.
- Page 179.--2d November, 1768. John Eakin and Elizabeth, his wife, and James Eakin and Anne Eakin, of Bedford, £120, 261 acres, part of Borden's 92100 acres, corner Andrew and Samuel Eakin. Teste: John, James and Mathew Lyle. (Note: John and James Eakins listed in this record were sons of James Eakins, Sr., who had died a few years prior).

Thomas Beard's will--To wife, all cleared land where house stands to clear land for turnips where they last grew; to daughter Fane; to daughter Jane; to wife, his elbow chair, negroe boy; to son Hugh, cleared land; to grandson Thomas, son of Hugh, 170 acres lying next John Montgomery's Thomas Hill; to grandchildren, viz: Thomas Alexander, Thomas (page 259) Beard (William's son), Thomas Mitchell, Thomas Dunlap, £10 each; to Robert Ramsey's children (testator's grandchildren), £12.10.0.; to son William; to daughters Ester Alexander, Elizabeth Mitchell, Mary Dunlap; to grandchildren Ann Alexander, Martha Mitchell. (Frequent provision for such issue in case daughter Jane have issue.) Executors, James Mitchell, Thos. Hill. Teste: John, James, Andrew Eakin. Proved, 18th October, 1769, by John and James Eakin. Executors qualify, with William Alexander, Wm. Kennedy, Hugh Beard.
Land of John Eakin
In 1765, James Senior leaves John and daughter Mary only 30 acres of the 522 acre estate, seeming to note his obvious displeasure with John. James Sr leaves the remainder of the estate to sons James Jr., Andrew and Samuel who were both minors at the time of James Sr death.
In 1768, John conveys to James 261 acres of what is presumably the 522 original acres. Unknown how he went from 30 acres to 261 to give to James. Did he buy out Andrew and Samuel? More research is needed on the lands of Andrew and Samuel.
In 1779, John is still in Rockbridge County.
In 1786, John is found in Kentucky. He must have left Rockbridge for Kentucky between 1779 - early 1780s. John appears to have settled first in Fayette Co, then Lincoln Co and finally in Jessamine County Kentucky. He appears in several petitions from Kentucky residents to the Virginia Legislature between 1786-1792. He [or his son John Eakin, Jr.] also appears as witness or inventory appraiser for the following citizens in Jessamine County KY:
- Roger Patton in 1811
- William Templemore 1806
- James Lockhart 1804
- Robert Lyle 1804
Wife of John Eakin: See citations on Unknown Daughter of Thomas Paxton as being the "Elizabeth Eakin" noted in suit between James Eakin and Thomas Paxton.
