John F. Barrett, Sr.

Services for John F. Barrett Sr., 71, of 1660 Iowa St., who died at 11:04 pm Sunday at St. Joseph's Unit of Mercy Health Center, will be at 11 am Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church.

Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Dubuque Post 6 of the American Legion. Friends may call until 9 pm Tuesday at Behr's.

Mr. Barrett was born in Dubuque. He was a retired chef and was formerly employed at Diamond's Cafeteria, Clarke College, the Chateau and was an instructor at Area One Vocational Technical School. He was a World War II Army veteran in the 42nd Rainbow Division.

Surviving are his wife, the former Della Lebben; three daughters, Mrs. Vincent (Shirley) Scardino, Mrs. James (Joyce) Helling, and Mrs. Joan Murphy, all of Dubuque; a son, John F. Barrett, Jr. of Dubuque; 21 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Casey, Mrs. Rosetta Meitl and Mrs. John (Marie) Hoover, and three brothers, Leo, Louis and Francis, all of Dubuque.
