Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) - January 25, 2002 Shirley M. Scardino, 73, of 746 Peru Road, died at noon Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at home surrounded by her family. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St., where there will be a parish wake service at 4:30 p.m. Mrs. Scardino worked at the former General Dry Battery Factory, Dubuque. She also worked at The Bridge Restaurant and The Chateau. She was born on Sept. 19, 1928, in Dubuque, daughter of John and Della (Pickel) Barrett. She married Vincent J. Scardino on Dec. 16, 1946, at Nativity Catholic Church, Dubuque; he died on Sept. 8, 1986. She was a member of Holy Ghost Parish. She liked to play cards and belonged to a card club. Shirley especially enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. Surviving are two daughters, Vicki L. (Ron) Hansen, of East Dubuque, Ill., and Janice S. (Craig) Hingtgen, of Dubuque; a son, Chuck A. (Jane) Scardino, of Dubuque; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce (James) Helling and Joan Murphy, both of Dubuque; and a brother, John (Juanita) Barrett, of Dubuque. She also was preceded in death by three sons, Dean M. Scardino, on Jan. 20, 1984, Randy J. Scardino, on March 3, 1996, and Ronald V. Scardino, on Nov. 7, 2001; and a brother, William Barrett. A Shirley M. Scardino Memorial Fund has been established. |
