Entry date; March 1, 1999 Traverse City, Record Eagle; 1980 Mar. 10,- "Fire Distroys House Trailer" --- Benzonia --- Fire distroyed a house trailer on Hoadley Road in Benzonia Township early Sunday evening. Keith Carmien, the township fire chief, said the mobile home was completly ablaze when fire fighters and equiptment arrived on the scene around 6:30 p.m. Volunteers fought the blaze for almost three hours. The mobile home, residence of Harvey Long, was a total loss, according Carmien. No one was hurt in the fire. The cause of the fire is still undetermind. Long - Died June 19, 2000 Benzonia - Harvey V. Long, 95 of Benzonia, died Monday, June 19, at home surrounded by his family. Harvey was born, Oct. 7, 1904, in Benzonia, the son of Adam and Matilda "Lung" Long. In 1935 he married Mina "Caswell" Long and together they enjoyed their farm in Benzonia where they raised their family. After Retirement from the Ann Arbor Car Farries in 1968, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and pursuing his many hobbies, some of which were gardening, woodworking, making maple syurp, and all other outdoor activties. Harvey is survived by his daughters, Susan Boarman of Chugiak, Alaska; Barbara Ives of Jones; and Donna Tanner of Elkhart, Indiana; a son Robert L. Long of Benzonia; 20 grandchildren 36 great - grandchildren; and four great - great - grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his wife Mina Long in 1978; Three children Frederick Long and Marybelle Long and an infant baby girl Long ; Three brothers, William Long, Lloyd Long, and Elton Long, and four sisters, May Porter , Margaret Clark, Grace Priest and Ida Priest. A graveside severice will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, at the Benzonia Township Cemetery with Rev. Richard Finny officating. The family was served by Edwards Funeral Home of Bear Lake. There was an error in the date of graveside service was held on Saturday June 24, 2000 at 2 p.m. not Sunday References
