Benzie Banner; 1950 ---- Researched; Nov. 4, 1998 Sept. 21, - Mrs. Harvey Long, passanger in the Sam Ives car which was struck in the side by Milton Bush. I have a copy of this article. Clip read; Another justice court trial is pending, but the date has not yet been set. It involves a charge of reckless driving against Milton Bush of Benzonia and comes as a result of a traffic accident at Fisher's corners on US - 31 just south of the village on the evening of September 9,, when a car driven by Bush crashed into the side of one driven by Samuel Ives, who was a pass. schmrfdwy injuring Mrs. Harvey Long, who was a passenger in the Ives car. According to reports, the crash occurred when Bush attempted to pass the Ives machine just as latter made a left turn of the pavement. The first summons, failure to slaughter or have tested a dairy cow consigned for sale for slaughter purposes, drew a $50 fine and $10 court costs with an order to pay by August 1, or serve a 15-day jail sentence. Twenty-five dollars of the fine was supended. The second charge, selling a dairy cow without first having it tested, was dismissed by Justice Leonard Case. Court costs on the second charge were $3.30 Entry date; Feb. 27, 2000 Traverse City, Record Eagle; 1976 Nov. 5,- "Benzonia Woman Dies In Crash" --- Benzonia --- A local resident, Mina M. Long, 63, was killed Wednesday night when the car she was driving struck a pick-up truck and trailer loaded with cement that had jack-knifed across U.S. 31 a mile sout of Benzonia. Benzie Sheriff officers said that the truck driven by Richard Vieau of Frankfort had gone out of control at the Betsie River bridge and U.S.31 due to icy conditions caused by a mixed rain and snow storm. Traveling alone, Long skidded into the pick-up truck, she was dead on arrival at the Paul Oliver Memorial hospital in Frankfort. Vieau received minor injuries, according to officials, and was treated and released. The accident occured at 6 p.m. Nov. 5,- "Obituary" -- Mina Long ------ Mina M. Long 63, of R. 1, Benzonia died Wednesday evening after a car accident on U.S. 31, South of Benzonia. The daughter of Fred and Gurtrude (Berry) Caswell, she was born April 7, 1913, and had been a long time Benzonia area resident. Mrs. Long is survived by her husband, Harvey; a son, Robert of Benzonia; three daughters, Mrs. Donna Tanner and Mrs. Barbara Ives, both of Benzonia, and Sue Ives of Alaska; 19 grandchildren and five - great grandchildren; a brother, Asa Caswell of Detroit; a sister, Clara Slocum of Arizona; and other relatives. The funeral os scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at Edwards Funeral Home in Bear Lake, with the Rev. Murray Sleeper officiating. Burial will be in Benzonia Township cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home this afternoon and evening. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 6, from Edwards Funeral home in Beart Lake with Rev. Murray Sleeper officiating Burial was in Benzonia Township cemetery. Surviving are her husband Harvey; One son, Robert of Benzonia; Tree daughters, Mrs. Donna Tanner of Benzonia, Mrs. Sue Ives of Alaska, Mrs. Barbara Ives of Benzonia; 19 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother Asa Caswell of Detroit and one sister, Clara Belle Slocum of Aitsonia and neices and nephews. Nov. 11,- "Pg. 1" Mina Long Killed In Wednesday Auto Crash ---- Mrs. Long, 63, of Benzonia, was killed last Wednesday night, when the car she was driving struck a jack-knifed pickup truck _?_ near the Betsie River Bridge U.S.31 South of Benzonia. Sheriff's Department officials said the truck, driven by Richard Vieau of Frankfort, had lost control as it approched the bridge because of icy conditions produced by mixed rain and snow. The accident occured a approximately 6 p.m. Long was dead on arrival at Paul OLiver Memorial Hospital, where vieau was treated for minor injuries and relased.
