Benzie Banner; 1917 ---- Researched; Apr. 2002 Sept. 6,- (Pg. 1) "Auto Bumps Into Team Of Oxen" -- Beulah has now beaten all previous records in joy-ride accidents, in which a Ford cat collides with an ox team, one of the oxen going on top of the motor, his head through the wind shield into a ladys lap. The accident occured near Crystal Valley farm; the car belonged to V. R. Green and was deiven by his man George Quigley, running at a pretty high speed with dime lights. Adam Long's ox team driven by a boy and two other boys were with him all sons of Adam. The boys say the machine was close on them before they spied the faint glim. They yelled to on-coming car-driver, and yelled "Gee," to the cattle, hitting theneigh one over the rump with the grad; but brefore the slow moving beasts could obey the command the car plunged into them. The motor of the car was stripped of covering, and the wind-shiled demolished, but the machine was able to take the passengers home. The couple in the back seat Ernie Davis and sister Bessie, were unscathed. Quigley was worst hurt in his feelings. The girl on the front seat was from Toleado, and suffered a facial bruise, from contact with the ox's horn. She possibly might manage a mustach, (nothing to say about that) but the next ox that kisses her she prefers should be dehorned. One ox was badly bruised and is thought will not be able to work for a long time if ever. Mr. Long demands a $75 dollars of Mr. Green as damages, and the matter is likely to go to court for settlement. One think is evident oxen are to slow for an automobile age.
