Hannah Welsh was baptised on 8th May 1738 at Kensworth (then in Hertfordshire), daughter of Martha Welsh, formerly Worcester, and her husband Jephtha Welsh. She was the second of their six children, although two of her younger siblings died as babies.

On 28th April 1760, aged about 22, Hannah married Edward Dean. They married at Kensworth, but he lived at Great Gaddesden, about five miles to the south. They settled in Great Gaddesden after their marriage, where they had nine children baptised between 1761 and 1778, although two of them died young.

Back in Kensworth, Hannah's parents died within six months of each other in 1782 and 1783.

Edward was buried at Great Gaddesden on 28th April 1805; the day that would have been their 45th wedding anniversary. Hannah survived him by nearly sixteen years. She had at least 31 grandchildren born in her lifetime, although some died young.

Hannah died aged 82, and was buried at Great Gaddesden on 12th April 1821.

Hannah daughter of Jeptha & Martha Welsh was baptiz[e]d 8 May

This baptism has been linked to the Hannah who married Edward Dean on the basis that:
    1. It is in the same parish that Hannah married in and at a plausible time; and
    2. Hannah and Edward had children called both Martha and the unusual name of Jephtha, who were presumably named after Hannah's parents.
