Gunhild Ellingsdatter was born January 12th 1849 in Sigdal,Norway. She was the second daughter of Elling Neilson and Anne Erlandsdatter. In the 1865 census for Sigdal, at the age of seventeen, she was working as a maid on the Rolfsruds Farm. Her parents and younger brothers and sisters lived nearby on the Tostenrud Farm.

In 1868 the Elling Neilson family emigrated to the USA. They waved goodbye to Grandma and left from Bergen, Norway to sail first to Hull, Quebec, on:Schooner Bravo 1868, from Drammen Apr. 23 to Quebec June 21 then down through the Great Lakes. It was a three week journey and the family settled in Spring Grove, Minnesota. In 1872 Gunhild married Kittel Olson in Spring Grove and they moved to nearby MadisonTwp, Iowa. Gunhild and Kittel had three children in Iowa. Ole in 1872, Anna in 1874 and Edward in 1876. In 1877 Kittel and Gunhild as well as the entire Elling Neilson family moved to Stony Brook Twp,Grant County, Minnesota.

1903 Kittle goes back to Norway, so Gunhild had passed away by 1903, not listed in 1900 census, so died before then, Carl born 1892 so died after that. ?? Death fact: 18 Aug 1895 3:30 AM

The above is an error as reported by Lee Rokke"Hi Sigrid, There is another mistake in the Sigdal bygdebok that should be corrected. On page 527 in the 1953 book (sorry, I do not have a copy of the new one) child # 2 of Elling Nilsen and Anne Erlsndsdtr , Gunhild born 1849, is described as married to Peder Johnson from Hadeland. She was not. The wife of Peder Johnson was Gunhild Hågensdater , also born 1849. See page 607. See obit - attached. Gunhild Ellingsdtr married Kittil Olsen Rolsrudplassen. Please do what in necessary to correct this"
