BIOGRAPHY: Nels K. Olson the eight child born to Kittel and Gunhild(Ellingsdatter) Olson September 29, 1884. Nels attended Wendell Elementary School through the 3rd grade. He farmed north of Kensington, Minnesota when he met Louise Christine Moe. Daughter of Peter and Raghnild Moe of Kensington. Louise had one younger brother, Oscar, who was killed in a train accident December 16,1958 at the age of 68. Nels and Louise married Wednesday, February 28, 1912. A wedding receptionfor Louise and Nels was given at the hall in Hoffman, Minnesota. Nels always said he married the prettiest gal in Grant County.

(History of Stony Brook Township by Louis O. Foss From the first Settlement to 1918 p135 Mr. Nils K. Olson and wife louise (Moe) came back to Wendell in 1915 or 1916 where Mr. Olson engaged in the livery business. Mr. Olson and family have been mentioned elsewher in these pages)

They made there first home near Kensington, but a year later they moved to Wendell, Nels's home town. Here Nels started a livery business hauling freight. At times he would also take people, ( mostly men) to what ever destination they needed to get to. Many times it was to Ten Mile Lake on week ends. There they could do a little fishing and drink a little beer. ( This service sounds a little like our taxi or designated driver service today ) Then Nels worked for Boe and Wilhusen as a motor mechanic, they sold Essex cars. In 1920 he took over the Stanard Oil Business, with Louise at his side as his bookkeeper. They were in business for 29 years when Nels retired in 1949. Orris their youngest son, took over the Stanard Oil Bulk Business from them when Nels retired. Nels and Louise spent their entire life in the Kittel Olson home place. They raised their 6 children there. Grace( Rosella), Lawrence, Hazel, Roy, Verner and Orris. And enjoyed their grandchildren there also. They have 18 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren. Nels died of a heart attack May 16,1960. Nels was 76 years old. After Nels's death Louise continued to live at the home place. In 1968 due to poor health Louise entered the Nursing Home in Elbow Lake, Minnesota. At the age of 81, January 26, 1969 Louise died. Both Louise and Nels along side their young daughter Rosella (who died at the age of 6 from whooping cough and pneumonia ) are buried at theTrinity Lutheran Cemetery outside of Wendell.
