!Census: 1850 Clermont Co, OH. Elijah Hicks 51; wife Nancy 44; John 25; Henry M. 24; Joshua 17; James 14; Elijah 12; Martha 11; William 8; Erastes M. P. 5; George W. 3; James White 19 (laborer). Alive in KY in 1882 Bible Records: Hicks Bible in possession of Elizabeth (Hicks) Joslin [copy sent to me by Lvera Jennings Seipelt, Georgetown OH]. Loose paper in Hicks Bible states "George W. Hicks was born March 30, 1847" Birth: Hicks Bible; consistent with census, 1850 (Fra. twp., Cler., OH; #1774) and 1860 Census (Fra. twp., Cler., OH; #1271) Marriage: There is no indication that he ever married. His 1870 census cannot be located. He does appear on the 1871-1875, & 1880-1881 yearly tax lists of Mason, Co., Ky. (no wife is indicated in these lists.) Death:The 1881 tax list of Mason Co. is the latest record found of him Census: check 1870: (OH and KY) 1880: (OH and KY) 1900: (May have died before 1900) TAX LISTS: Mason Co., Ky. tax lists 1871-1875; 1880-1881. (in GS collection) Appears in the lists: 1871-1875; 1880-1881 (gap in collection) He does not appear in 1882 or later lists. In militia until 1875. First shown with property in 1875 (1 horse, $75.; $50. gold, etc.; In 1880, he had 4 acres worth $60.; no animals shown. In 1881, he had 4 acres and a horse worth $40. He does not appear in 1882 or later. His brothers, Orestes Polk, William, and James are found in these tax lists for the same period. LETTER: George W. Hicks, Maysville, Mason, Ky. to Henry Melvin Hicks in Rural, Clermont, Ohio. The text follows: 7 Oct 1874 Dear Brother, Hope this may find all well as it leaves all at present. My health is about as usual. Henry, I have not rec'd that money yet, and as I made arrangements to use it the 1st of this month, it will put me to considerable trouble if I don't get it. As you know, I discounted it heavy in order to make sure of getting it at that time. I got the balance I lacked [?] for 30 days, which is now overdue. If you have not sent it yet, please do so as soon as possible. Enclosed find one of Mr. Pelham's [?] cards. The price of his moveable ______ hives is 3.00. Write soon. Your bro. George W.
