1774: George Clear listed in 1774 Berkeley County, Virginia census on Opequon Creek near Allen Cox.[2] George located in Botetourt on Glade Creek and witnessed Allen Cox's purchase of property along with Jacob Smith in 1782.
1781: George Clair taxed for 83 acres in Captain May's County 1781-1786 [3]
1785: George Clair taxed for 9 persons in the Botetourt Enumeration [4]
1786: George Clear listed 1786-1790 Botetourt Land Tax [5] District of Hugh Allen with 83 acres that are listed under Susannah Clear 1792-1796, and then under George Clear, deceased, 1797-1801.
1787: George Clare, age 49, married Susanna Kesler, age 29, on July 10, 1787, in Botetourt, Virginia. [6]
1809: According to a court case August 10, 1809, George had purchased rights to 380 acres of 1000 acres in common with several other persons, and after George's death, the patent was issued in the name of Thomas, eldest son of George, and carried under Thomas' name, even though Thomas had moved to Pulaski County, Kentucky. Susanna's father John Kessler included Clear's property into his own survey in order for the Clare descendants to sell the property in 1813 and 1822.[7]
