1810 U. S. Census: Thomas Clere (sic) lived in Caroline, Virginia with two males under 10 (Thomas, 9, and Daniel,<1) one male 26-44 (Thomas, 36), one female under 10 (Mariah, 3), and one female 16-25? (Sarah would have been 34, may have already been deceased)[2]
1810 Mary Sarah Miller Clare died after Mariah was born in 1807, but prior to the 1816 marriage of Thomas to Anna Gastineau. No death record found.
1816 Thomas Clare, age 42, married Anna Gastineau, 18, on June 11, 1816 in Pulaski, Kentucky. Witness was Daniel Clare.[3]
1820 U. S. Census: Thos. Clare lived in Somerset, Pulaski County, Kentucky, with 3 males under age 10, one male 10-16, 2 males 16-26 (Thomas, 20, and George, 25) 2 males 45+ (Thomas, 46, and ?), 3 females under age 10, one female 10-16 (Mariah, 13), one female 16-26 (Anna, 22), one female 26-45 (?), one female 45+ (?). Total family members was 15. Thomas held no slaves. Interestingly, none of the columns for occupation were checked: agriculture, commerce, or manufacturing.[4]NOTE: Unlikely Anna had 6 children in first 4 years of marriage. Number of persons in household likely represents 2 nuclear families. Speculation.
1825: Mariah Clare, 18, married Franklin William Cox on November 24, 1825 in Pulaski, Kentucky with consent of father Thomas Clare, 51. Witness was James Clare.[5]
1830 U. S. Census: Thomas Clare, 56, lived in Pulaski County, Kentucky with two males ages 10-15 (?), one male 50-60 (Thomas, 56), one female under 5 (?), one female 5-10 (?), one female 10-15 (?), one female 15-20 (?), and one female 30-40 (Anna, 32), and one female 70-80 (?). No slaves. Record states 6 household members. There were 9.[6]
1840 U. S. Census: Thomas Clare, 66, lived in Pulaski, Pulaski County, Kentucky with one male between 5-10(?), one male 20-30(?), one male 50-60 (Thomas), three females 15-20(?), one female 40-50 (Anna, 43). No slaves, total household members was 7.[7]
1845 Thomas Allen Clare died in 1845. No death record found.
