Facts and Events
Amor Hickinbottom was baptised on 25th November 1722 at Dunstable in Bedfordshire, son of Mary Hickinbottom, formerly Bigg, and her husband Holiday Hickinbottom. Amor was one of at least five children. When Amor was 18 years old his parents died within a month of each other - his mother in September 1741 and his father in October 1741. A couple of years later, aged 20, Amor was married at Leighton Buzzard, a few miles west of Dunstable. His wife was Elizabeth Watts, who was from Leighton Buzzard and about a year younger than him. Amor and Elizabeth appear to have spent the rest of their lives in Leighton Buzzard. Prior to Amor's marriage on 5th October 1743 there are no Hickinbottoms (or variations) listed in the Leighton Buzzard parish registers. Between 1744 and 1764 Amor and Elizabeth had ten children baptised at Leighton Buzzard, although one (Mary) died as a baby. Mary's burial record says that Amor worked as a labourer. Amor died aged 61, being buried at Leighton Buzzard on 6th October 1784. The burial record describes him as poor. He had lived to see several of his children marry and had a number of grandchildren at the time of his death. Elizabeth outlived him by nearly 17 years. References
