Facts and Events
John Hickinbottom was baptised on 8th October 1744 at Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire, son of Elizabeth Hickinbottom, formerly Watts, and her husband Amor Hickinbottom, a labourer. John was the eldest of the couple's ten children. John was married on 8th November 1773, aged 29, to an Ann Sanders. In 1777 they had a son named John baptised. Sadly he died less than two years later. John and Ann appear not to have had any other children. Ann died in 1811, after 38 years of marriage. She was buried at Leighton Buzzard on 9th December 1811. On 2nd January 1815 John wrote his will. Having no surviving children, he left his estate to his brothers Holiday and James on condition that they sell it and split the proceeds between John's siblings. His estate included copyhold cottages and land in Leighton Buzzard, indicating a modest degree of affluence. He also described himself as a gardener in his will. The list of his siblings in the will is very useful genealogically for establishing which of his siblings were still living at the start of January 1815 and also the married names of his sisters. John died in 1816, aged 72. He was buried at Leighton Buzzard, where he had spent his whole life. References
