Amor Hickinbottom was baptised on 20th July 1746 at Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire, son of Elizabeth Hickinbottom, formerly Watts, and her husband Amor Hickinbottom. He was the second of ten children.

On 13th February 1770, aged 23, Amor married Elizabeth Tarbox at Drayton Parslow in Buckinghamshire. They returned to the Leighton Buzzard area, settling at Billington just south of the town, where they appear to have had two daughters: Rose in 1776 and Susannah in 1778.

Elizabeth died in 1803. Amor remarried seven months later to an Elizabeth Southam.

Amor died in 1826, aged 80.
